FAQ
What is my Vedic sign?
In Vedic astrology, your main sign is usually your Moon sign: the sign the Moon was in when you were born. Your Sun sign and rising sign (Lagna) matter too, and this calculator shows all three. Vedic signs follow the sidereal zodiac, which is measured against the stars.
Why is my Vedic sign different from my Western sign?
Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, which starts at the spring equinox. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which stays fixed to the stars. Over the centuries the equinox has slipped about 24° against the stars. This gap is called the ayanamsa, so many people's Vedic Sun sign is one sign earlier than their Western one.
What is a nakshatra?
Nakshatras are the 27 lunar mansions of Vedic astrology. Each covers 13°20′ of the sky and is split into four quarters called padas. The nakshatra the Moon was in when you were born is your birth star. The Moon passes through about one nakshatra a day.
What is a Life Season?
Vimshottari dasha divides a 120-year cycle into nine planetary periods of 6 to 20 years. Where you start depends on the Moon's nakshatra at your birth. VediSense calls your current period, the Mahadasha, your Life Season. Each period also has shorter sub-periods called antardashas.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Your Sun sign changes only once a month, so it rarely needs the time. Your Moon sign changes on about 4 days in 10, your nakshatra on almost every day, and your rising sign about every two hours. Without a time, this calculator shows only what holds for your whole birth day.
